Dramante’s commitment to being more environmentally friendly

Hey and welcome to another blog post from Dramante, in this edition we take a closer look at how we continue our fight to tackle climate change and save our planet! We take great care and fully understand our responsibility to minimise our impact on the environment. Being sustainable ensures the environment we operate in is being taken care of which includes both our suppliers and our customers.

An introduction to our packages

Whenever we package our lovely products for our loyal customers we always try to make sure that the packaging is as eco friendly as possible, so customers are able to recycle the packaging over and over again. We use something called ’pulpsafe packaging’ which offers the greenist possible eco-friendly credentials as well as the highest levels of protection for shipping bottles in. It's made from the UK and the material used is recyclable, compostable and biodegradable.

‘Pulp’ is made by combining both water and recycled paper, usually card offcuts and recycled newspapers. It is then moulded using wet pressing technology, then finally the moulded pulp is heated to give it strength and to keep it as rigid as possible. The packaging can be placed in any household compost bin and the natural ingredients used to make it will eventually break down in less than 6 months. Pulpsafe is even accepted by all local councils within the UK for recycling without the need for specialist treatment - see, I told you we were doing our bit by helping save the planet!

Whenever we package your products we use fully compostable and biodegradable bags which are certified to EN13432 which is the international recognised certificate for compostable material. These bags are also environmentally friendly and approved for use by most local authorities throughout the UK.

Even the tape that we use to seal the boxes is eco-friendly and a ‘greener’ option. The kraft paper tape we use when packing our eco-friendly boxes uses solvent free adhesive and is completely biodegradable. The tape can be recycled along with corrugated boxes.

Benefits of using recycled packaging materials

The main advantage of using recycled products is that it conserves resources, water and energy, as well as lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The main benefits of recycling cardboard include:

  1. Reduces landfill - By recycling cardboard it reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills up and down the country. Landfills are harmful to the local environment through air and water pollution.
  2. Reduces greenhouse gases - By reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill (as mentioned above) the amount of greenhouse gases emitted also reduces.
  3. Saves energy - Recycling cardboard saves a huge amount of energy as certain materials require higher levels of energy to process because more work is needed to produce them.
  4. Saves trees - Recycling cardboard also saves a lot of trees as it helps prevent further deforestation and protects the forests and wildlife that lives in them.
  5. It has a wide range of uses - The same cardboard you recycle can be used for many different purposes such as cereal boxes, paperboard, tissues and paper towels to name a few!

Summary

We’re not saying we are the number 1 market leaders on being more environmentally friendly in our day to day activities. But, we are certainly doing our part to help as much as we can and will continue to do so in the future. It should be a moral obligation for all firms to look at how to become more environmentally friendly, we are no different and the time to act is now!
