Product Description

Star of Bombay is a higher-strength, super-premium variant of Bombay Sapphire. Released first in global travel retail in 2015, Star of Bombay London Dry Gin has since expanded its availability around the world. It uses the same general ten botanicals as Bombay Sapphire, but employs different varieties of coriander and angelica along with three different types of juniper berries. Additionally, it adds bergamot and ambrette seed to the recipe.

Highlights

  • It is named after the Star of Bombay, a 182-carat sapphire from Sri Lanka which was gifted to silent film star, Mary Pickford, by her second husband, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr.
  • She bequeathed the jewel to the Smithsonian upon her death in 1979 and it now resides in the National Museum of Natural History.
  • 70cl bottle size.
  • 47.5% ABV.

Serving Instructions

To be enjoyed on its own in a Martini, or in a variety of contemporary cocktails.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Loud, highly aromatic nose with coriander and angelica loud and clear just as in standard Bombay Sapphire. Pine and juniper evident a bit lower, as crystalline pine needles on an icy morning with a stiff jolt of bitter citrus.

Palate: The loudness/amplified aromatic character is readily accessible. Hibiscus and a light floral note up front, the mid-palate is angelica and juniper, becoming a bit peppery and earthier on the finish. Coriander certainly, a bit loudly, but also darkened by bitter citrus rind, grains of paradise/cubeb, even a note of anise/liquorice and other unresolved spice.

Finish: Finishing in the muddy low notes with an almost aperitif like bitterness. Very dry.
